Benefits of Recycling Plastic Tanks
Reduction of Plastic Waste:
Recycling plastic tanks and other rotomoulded parts helps reduce the amount of plastic waste in landfills, which can take hundreds of years to decompose.
Conservation of Resources:
By recycling plastic tanks, valuable materials are repurposed and reused, saving natural resources and energy.
Cost Savings:
Recycling plastic tanks can be more cost-effective than manufacturing new plastic products, benefiting both businesses and the environment.
Supporting Sustainability:
By choosing Vision Plastics, you're contributing to the global effort to reduce plastic pollution and promote a sustainable future.
Lowers Greenhouse Gas Emissions:
Manufacturing new plastic generates more CO₂ and other greenhouse gases than recycling existing plastic. Recycling cuts emissions by reducing energy consumption and the need for raw material extraction.
Minimizes Environmental Pollution:
Improper disposal of plastic tanks (burning or dumping) can release toxins and microplastics into the soil and water. Recycling prevents environmental contamination and promotes cleaner ecosystems.
Supports Circular Economy:
Encourages a lifecycle where materials are reused and reintegrated into new products, reducing environmental impact.

Rotomoulding Facts
Here are some key facts about rotomoulding products (also known as rotational moulding products):
1. Manufacturing Process
Rotomoulding involves placing powdered plastic into a hollow mold, which is then heated and rotated.
The plastic sticks to the heated mould and melts for form a seamless, hollow product.
2. Material Used
The most common material is polyethylene (PE) due to its flexibility and durability.
Other materials include polypropylene (PP), PVC, and nylon, though less frequently.
3. Durability
Products are highly durable and impact-resistant, making them suitable for rugged applications like water tanks, fuel tanks, and playground equipment.
4. Seamless and Leak-Proof
The process creates seamless one-piece items, which makes them leak-proof and ideal for liquid storage.
5. Design Flexibility
Complex shapes, contours, and double-walled constructions are possible.
Embossed logos, inserts, and threads can be added during moulding.
6. Cost-Effective for Small Runs
Tooling costs are lower than other plastic molding processes like injection molding.
Best suited for low to medium production volumes.
7. Applications
Common products: water tanks, kayaks, coolers, bins, traffic barriers, and playground equipment.
8. Environmental Impact
Rotomoulded products usually haver a long design life which can be greater than 20 years.
Rotomoulded products are usually recyclable and can be made from recycled plastics.
The process produces minimal waste.
Types of Plastic
Plastic is everywhere—from the bottle you sip water from to the dashboard of your car. But not all plastics are created equal. There’s a whole universe of types, each with unique properties that make them suited for specific applications. Let’s dive into the fascinating world of plastics and uncover what makes each type special.
1. Polyethylene (PE)
Types: High-Density (HDPE), Low-Density (LDPE)
Fun Fact: HDPE is used in bulletproof vests when woven into fibers.
Uses:
LLDPE/HDPE: Milk bottles, water tanks, detergent bottles
LDPE: Plastic bags, cling films, squeeze bottles
Why it matters: Lightweight, chemical-resistant, and very versatile.
2. Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET or PETE)
Fun Fact: One of the most recycled plastics in the world.
Uses:
Beverage bottles, food containers, synthetic fibers (polyester)
Why it matters: Transparent, strong, and moisture-resistant. PET bottles can be recycled into clothing or carpet.
3. Polypropylene (PP)
Fun Fact: Used in medical implants due to its low toxicity.
Uses:
Tupperware, car bumpers, diapers, living hinges
Why it matters: Tough and fatigue-resistant—great for parts that bend often.
4. Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC)
Fun Fact: It’s naturally white and brittle but becomes flexible with added plasticizers.
Uses:
Pipes, window frames, IV bags, flooring
Why it matters: Durable and weather-resistant, ideal for construction and healthcare.
5. Polystyrene (PS)
Types: Solid (Can provide good clarity), Foam (Styrofoam)
Fun Fact: It can trap air, making it an excellent insulator.
Uses:
Disposable cutlery, foam cups, packaging materials
Why it matters: Lightweight and insulating, though not very environmentally friendly.
6. Acrylic (PMMA)
Fun Fact: Often used as a shatter-resistant alternative to glass.
Uses:
Windows, aquariums, display cases, headlights
Why it matters: Crystal-clear and UV-resistant.
7. Polycarbonate (PC)
Fun Fact: Used in bulletproof glass and astronaut helmets.
Uses:
Safety glasses, electronic components, reusable water bottles
Why it matters: Incredibly strong, transparent, and heat-resistant.
Conclusion
From milk bottles to medical implants, plastics are engineered for purpose. While some are recyclable and reusable, others pose environmental challenges. The future lies in innovation—developing smarter, greener plastics that still deliver the performance we rely on.
Plastic Tank Recycling
It all begins with an idea.
Did you know, that recycling your old plastic tanks with us, can save approximately 400kg of plastic from polluting our environment.
While plastic tanks have a long life expectancy. After many years some reach their end of life.
We are committed to providing an environmentally friendly way to deal with these tanks and other products.
Recycling end of life plastic products uses considerably less energy then making virgin plastic. This greatly reduces the carbon footprint from manufacture of new products.
Here at Vision Plastics, a large portion of the material we produce is being utilised into the production of plastic tanks, so, our quest is to also recycle those end of life plastic tanks from around the country, saving the plastic tanks from being buried, burned or dumped in landfill. We can also take any rotationally moulded products such as mussel floats.
Vision Plastics will happily come and collect your old plastic tank after you follow the required steps we give you. We accept enquiries about any type of plastic recycling and will do our best to help you find a solution.
